A Helping Hand in Haiti

Marbial Haiti Building Project Oct 2010 251

As we get closer to the holidays, many of us start thinking about those in need and ways we might be able to help. Near or far, every effort can make a big difference in the lives of those who have suffered a loss. One of our area builder friends answered the call and traveled a great distance to help build a new school in Haiti to replace one that was damaged in the earthquake last January.

It only takes one person to make a big difference in the lives of many.

After 5 grueling days of work, which involved a 3.5 hour drive up the river and a 1.5 hour hike up the mountain to reach the job site, a brand new 5 room school was constructed with the help of volunteers and donated materials in Marbial, Haiti. Children who live in the remote areas of Haiti rarely receive an education. The construction of the school is key to a better future for children who grow up in this community and will serve as an educational foundation for years and generations to come. Wallmark Homes is proud to have helped support the cause and our friend Jeff Bontkes of Benchmark Homes in this endeavor.
